Voices of AbbVie: Reflecting on a decade of impact

As we recognize 10 years as a company, what makes working at AbbVie unique? Global employees weigh in.

Looking toward a bright future

Since our inception in 2013, we’ve focused on taking on tough health challenges to make a real difference in people’s lives. In the past 10 years, we’ve invested over $50 billion to research, develop and discover new medicines and solutions. We’ve also expanded to over 50,000 employees who are focused every day on making a remarkable impact that lasts.

While we have made great progress, it’s only the beginning. As we recognize a decade of impact, we turned to our employees around the globe to reflect on what motivates their work, how culture plays a part and what they see for the future of our company.

Innovating for patients

Supportive colleagues and mentors driving toward the same goal of innovating for patients sets the experience of working at AbbVie apart, according to Ammar Alsheikh, a senior scientist at the AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Massachusetts. He specializes in researching autoimmune diseases, working with a team to design experiments that unlock a deeper understanding of autoimmune diseases.

“It is essential for me, not only as a physician but also as a scientist, that the work I am doing is impactful,” he says.

Making a difference every day has kept Jason Cohan, a specialist in scientific compliance, motivated during his long career. He celebrates 25 years with the company in 2023. Cohan’s current role focuses on training and compliance for our growing R&D function.

“In my role, I’m making an impact on patients’ lives by ensuring that our employees are qualified and trained to perform their jobs,” he says.

Embracing diverse thinking

Teams across the company bring their unique perspectives and diverse thinking to their work, according to Katrina Borissova, an operational excellence lead within clinical development at Allergan Aesthetics in the United Kingdom. Diverse perspectives are valued, with all voices heard equally.

Three words I would use to describe AbbVie’s culture are transparency, equality, and resilience.

Driven by dedicated people

Regardless of which part of the company you represent, we are all dedicated to the same mission, according to Binta Beard, director of global philanthropy.

“When I explain to family and friends what AbbVie does, it’s really pretty simple.” she says. “We’re an innovative, global biopharma company that makes transformative therapies.”

A quest to seek out opportunities and act with aspiration is what will drive AbbVie into the future, according to Elena Dianova, a public affairs director at our Russia site.

“I believe in the strong, bright future of AbbVie because I see people who are dedicated and have the highest mission and the ambition to seize as many opportunities for patients as possible,” she says.
